Aziz Anzari is back.
NetflixAfter four years, Master of None is returning to Netflix. The streaming giant revealed in a tweet Wednesday that Master of None's third season would drop in May, wedging the news among a crammed release schedule for the month that also includes Lucifer Season 5 Part 2, The Kominsky Method and all three Back to the Future movies.
Co-created by and starring Aziz Anzari, Master of None's first two seasons, launched in 2015 and 2017 respectively, were highly viewed and even more highly acclaimed. Both seasons have a 100% Fresh rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and a 91 rating on Metacritic. Season 3 will still star Anzari but will reportedly focus more on Denise, a hitherto side character played by Lena Waithe, reports Vulture.
Ansari has receded from the public eye since 2018 after youth media site Babe.net published a story in which a pseudonymous woman recounted a date with Ansari, accusing the actor and comedian of aggressive sexual behavior. The accusation became a source of controversy, causing debate in the media and online over whether it was misconduct worthy of the MeToo movement.
Ansari released a statement at the time, saying their encounter "by all indications was completely consensual" and has been largely absent since. The one exception was his 2019 Netflix stand-up special Right Now. "I felt so many things in the last year or so," he says in the special. "There's times I felt scared, there's times I felt humiliated, there's times I felt embarrassed, and ultimately I just felt terrible that this person felt this way."
Master of None will reportedly be shorter than the previous two seasons, with five episodes rather than 10, and was shot in London.
